From this point on, students can view all homework and messages on Google Classroom.
Hi Parents:
We completed our first three days using Google Classroom. Overall, I am happy with how the class is doing. During our zoom meetings, the class has talked about a regular zoom meeting schedule. We will have a zoom meeting Monday-Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. All students are expected to join for this daily meeting with their video on. Students are aware that all zoom meeting information will be posted on the stream page of Google Classroom, so I will not be including that in a daily/weekly email to you. Right now I plan to schedule a recurring meeting for the week, so students will use the same link and password every day of the week. At this point, if an additional zoom meeting is needed for some or all of the class, we will do that from 1:00-2:00 or 1:30-2:30 based on what works for the students who need to zoom with me. The class felt they would prefer earlier hours rather than the original 3:30-4:30 time I had emailed to you last week. This past Wednesday we did a math review in the afternoon for those who wanted to join. Most of the time, I see the afternoon zoom meeting as an optional one Monday-Thursday. We will never have an afternoon zoom meeting on Friday since school dismisses at noon. Overall the students are doing well at emailing me or private messaging me in Google Classroom if they have questions. Please continue to email me with any questions you may have. I will do my best to respond to you in a timely manner. Thank you so much for your support during this transition to distance learning. I am still learning some things about how Google Classroom works. When I originally set up Google Classroom, I did not have the permission slips for all students to have their own email addresses. Thus, I added all parents as students. Some of you signed up and some did not. Now that all students are signed up, I am planning to remove any parent emails that are up as a student. This way you as parents will not keep getting all the updates a student gets. I will do this by Tuesday. I plan to invite parents as a guardian, so that you can get weekly updates about your child, but not get every daily update your child gets as a student. This will also be helpful for me when I grade, so I don’t have to sort through the extra 20+ missing assignments for parents (because you already completed 6th grade J). I do have some students working under their parents’ email address. If that is the case for your child, I will not remove that email. However, I am unable to add a guardian’s email to an adult’s account, so you will not get the weekly emails sent to you as a guardian. Scheduling is still being worked out for some of our rotation teachers. I am aware that Mrs. Jimenez is planning to meet with 6th grade choir via Zoom at 11:00 a.m. on Mondays. Mr. Koh is also planning to have weekly Bible Studies with all of 6th grade at 11:00 a.m. on Thursdays. Mrs. Nelson will be sending zoom videos to me that I will attach to Google Classroom for students weekly Library time. Due to the fact students will be doing so much on the computers, they will not have a regular computer class. If you have questions about other rotations feel free to contact those teachers directly. Any additional information I am given I will pass on to you. I pray you have had a wonderful weekend!
